Adam Dreyer – Facilitator

Adam Dreyer, a PIR Facilitator from Aftercare, accepts 100% responsibility for his own life.  He has also seen first-hand the benefits when people take responsibility and ‘own’ the journey of recovery for any person, especially those experiencing mental illness.

When working with individuals, Adam regularly invites them to reconnect with something they’re passionate about.  From here, he’s observed that when people invest their own resources: time, money, thinking or commitment of energy, the changes they make “stick”.

Adam invites the individuals to invest in themselves, to remind them they are the expert in their own life and author their own narrative.

Sometimes this investment is the time taken to write their proposal, a barter arrangement, and other occasions this investment is a percentage of the money Adam seeks through a Flexible Funding committee.

Adam said “I remember one individual co-contributing $100 towards membership to join a Mens’ group, to help him learn about himself, his reactions and be a better man. This was a lot for someone on New Start, but it demonstrated his commitment to himself.”

Adam believes that better outcomes are achieved when there’s co-creation and co-action. He says “When an individual has ownership, there can be better outcomes”.
