After moving to the Gold Coast in 2011 I thought that I was able to continue my journey in recovery without much disruption.
I soon found out that I was wrong and it would take me a further 12 months to be linked in with a support service on the Gold Coast. After working with my support worker and developing coping strategies to further assist my recovery over the next year, I was invited to take part in a ‘Partners in Recovery’ forum. Taking part in this forum was an amazing feeling. I have always been passionate about advocating for improved services and information for those living with mental illness and their carers/families. Being invited to speak at the launch of Partners in Recovery in February 2014 encouraged me to reflect on how far my life has come in my journey with mental illness.
Since the launch of PIR I feel that I am now in a position to be able to have some input to systemic improvements for those living with mental illness, their carers and families.
